OPRL have confirmed that unfortunately siliconized paper cannot be recycled and will need to use the 'Don't Recycle' label.
Additionally, The Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) states – Silicone, Greaseproof and Glassine papers, whilst not damaging to the process, cannot readily be pulped by high volume standard paper machines and therefore often pass into the mill waste stream
The 04OBAG lines are still made from industrially compostable materials and will retain this mark.
Hopefully, this will not cause too many issues, the main selling points for these items are:
• Made from FSC certified material
• Ideal for take away deli panini, baguettes, and snacks
• Disposable non-stick paper bags suitable for contact grill / grill presses
• No contact with the grill, the bread gets its grilled stripes even through the bag
• Heat resistant paper up to 220°C and microwave heating
• Made from industrially compostable materials
• Hygienic, easy handling and serving
• Custom print manufacture available
If they are used correctly to avoid cross contamination and reduce cleaning by keeping all “melted/transferred” foods in the product, then they would not be recyclable by that point.
